I've been a bit under the weather with a nasty cold. The only thing I don't like about this time of year is that something is always "going around."
I thought I'd share a photo of Miss Isabelle wearing her witchy finery. I picked up the hat at Target and just added lace and roses, because, only a pink, rosey witch would visit Rose Cottage!
Are you enjoying this lovely Autumn season? Since I've been under the weather my days seem to be spent curled up on the sofa with a pot of tea and a good book. I'm currently re~reading Jane Eyre, for this book seems to suit the season...
"It was three o'clock ; the church bell tolled as I passed under the belfry: the charm of the hour lay in its aproaching dimness, in the low~gliding and pale~beaming sun. I was a mile from Thornfield, in a lane noted for wild roses in summer, for nuts and blackberries in autumn, and even now possessing a few coral treasures in hips and haws, but whose best winter delight lay in its utter solitude and leafless respose...
It's hard to believe we are halfway through October. We are actually having some fall like weather, which means its time to pull out the boots. I haven't been to the thrift store in a few weeks, I can't wait to see what goodies have arrived. If I'm feeling better tomorrow maybe I'll take a trip ~

a thrifty find ~ pretty flowery dress
Things are beginning to settle down a bit after the last week or so, although my brother is in the hospital (also kidney problems~runs in the family). Today is one of those days I feel like doing nothing. Of course I will do the regular chores that must be done, but what I want to do is play. I've let my creative side slide a bit and I need to get back to the things that bring me joy. So today I'm going to start with
a stack of favorite books ~ a lovely way to while away the afternoon. I'm dreaming of lavender sachets, pretty bath salts and maybe if I get really ambitious faerie rose potpourri.
Thank you for all the kind thoughts and concern regarding our grandbaby. He is out of the hospital now, safe and snug at home. Needless to say, I feel as though my spirit has been drained. I'm slowly coming round' with lots of quiet time (as a little baby permits!) and endless cups of tea.
If you followed any of my blogs in the past you might remember many of my posts were about flowers and herbs and their meanings. I've gotten away from that (it has been a crazy year), but I am slowly working my way back... I miss gardening, pressing and drying flowers and finding ways to work their charm throughout our cottage. I miss making soap and other lotions and potions...
The weather has been warm so I spent the morning weeding and planted a few seeds for our Winter garden. I picked some rosemary and made a little wreath tied with pretty pink ribbon and hung it in our foyer. Rosemary is a protective herb, besides smelling divine.
I know it is now Autumn and most of the flowers are fading if not already gone. Thank goodness I had the forsight to dry my rose petals!
I also made myself a small batch of herbal spray. Nice to keep on hand if your having hot flashes (ahem) ~
3 drops of Geranium oil
5 drops of Lavender oil
1 drop of Rose oil
4 ounces of distilled water
I will share a photo or two of a few pretty skirts I picked up thrifting as well as a very shabby chic dreamcatcher I made next time. I'm off to the farmers market to find fresh veggies for supper!
Our little grandbaby has been in the hospital the last 2 days with a bacterial infection. The poor little thing is hooked up with ivs and is having frequent blood tests and xrays. If you wouldn't mind please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
I'm sorry I haven't been around much. It has been a stressful week, as our daughter (baby's mommy) has also been in and out of the hospital with a kidney infection.
Hopefully my next post will be on a cheerier note, as I had planned on sharing a bit of floral and herbal lore as well as a few photos of my latest thrifty finds.
I had been searching for the "perfect" background for my blog and I think I finally found it. Seems to sum up everything I'm about, old~fashioned with a bit of enchantment thrown it... I think it's so pretty!
