Sweet Inspiration

“Fashion somehow, for me, is purely and happily irrational.”
~ Hedi Slimane

I came across this blog and was immediately smitten.  Granted she hasn't posted in awhile, but I've been having such fun reading through her archives.  I love it when I come across someone who likes linens and laces and incorporates that into her everyday style.

Enjoy the weekend!

I'm Not Busy

"Is it so small a thing
To have enjoy'd the sun,
To have lived light in the spring,
To have loved,
To have thought,
To have done..."
-  Matthew Arnold

Enjoying the nice weather yesterday with my grandson and Lizzie.

Made a small batch of plain soap.

My husband is busy working outside and I've been puttering around the cottage.  Nothing big going on this weekend, which is fine by me.  It's nice to have slow, gentle days full of sweet nothings. Tonight we're grilling out and then having some of that strawberry pie, which actually turned out pretty good.

She's Wearing Shorts!

Yes friends I'm wearing shorts.  Never thought I would this late in the game.  But heck, these are cut~ offs I made from thrifted pants, so if I don't wear them too often its no great lost. It does get pretty darn hot down here in the deep south, and I really don't want to wear skirts all the time.  Maybe its because the older I get the more the heat bothers me, or maybe I just don't care if I show off my spidery vein legs...anyway I perked them up with my new lace shirt extender.  Just me being me.

Have a wonderful weekend!

An Ordinary Day

"Be like a flower and turn your face to the sun."
- Kahlil Gibran

We've been having beautiful weather and not too muggy!  I've planted a few flowers and weeded the veggie garden.  I baked a strawberry pie. I hope it taste better than it looks.  My pie plate was too big for the size of the crust.

My sad strawberry pie

I've been picking some herbs to add to the chickens run and coop. It helps to freshen it up.

rosemary, lavender and mint

Today I received a lace shirt extender I bought from etsy.  I just love etsy, but I have to be careful and not spend all my money there.

So, that was pretty much my day aside from the usual laundry, dishes and babysitting my grandson. Dinner tonight is scrambled eggs.  At the moment I have 9 dozen eggs in the icebox courtesy of our girls.  It's no wonder we have breakfast dinner at least once a week.

Curve Ball

“Our perfect companions never have fewer than four feet.”

Junior (Puppy Doo)

This Spring has not been kind to our pets.  Last month we said goodbye to our very own "grumpy cat" Minnie.  She was 15 and very frail.

Now our little dog Junior is not doing well.  Yesterday I took him to the Vet and discovered he has a stomach tumor.  He hasn't been eating and is rapidly losing weight.  We have him on a special diet that includes Ensure.  There is not much we can do except try to keep some food in him.  For the last 14 years he has always been "my little heartbeat at my feet."

Eating //  homemade strawberry shortcake

Drinking //  lots of Earl Grey tea

Feeling //  overwhelmed at times while caring for my grandson and keeping house

Making //  a few more crocheted dish rags in summery colors

Thinking //  how fast time seems to go

Dreaming //  of the first tomatoes off the vine

I hope you all enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day.  For me it's always a little bittersweet, but made happy by my thoughtful children and husband:)

May Days

"Sweet May hath come to love us,
Flowers, trees, their blossoms don;
And through the blue heavens above us
The very clouds move on."
-  Heinrich Heine, Book of Songs

Looking at our house.

View from the front porch.

Our jasmine needs trimming, but I'll wait until it stops blooming. We also have a sparrow family that has taken up residence among the sweet blooms.  I can't mess with that! :)

Potatoes are getting bigger. They'll be ready to harvest next month.

This is the greenhouse the hubby built.

A few strawberry plants, tomatoes and squash.

Lovely spring days.
